Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are a leading cause of death worldwide, and their prevalence is influenced by various socio-economic and lifestyle factors. In Nigeria, there are significant rural-urban disparities in health outcomes, including CVDs. In Taraba State, urban populations typically have better access to healthcare facilities, while rural populations often face challenges such as limited healthcare infrastructure, lower levels of health education, and poor access to medical services. This study will assess the differences in the prevalence of cardiovascular diseases between rural and urban populations in Taraba State, aiming to identify the socio-economic and healthcare-related factors that contribute to these disparities.
There is a noticeable gap in the prevalence of cardiovascular diseases between rural and urban populations in Taraba State. Rural residents often face challenges in accessing healthcare services, have limited knowledge about CVD prevention, and engage in riskier lifestyle behaviors due to lower education levels and economic constraints. Urban residents, on the other hand, may have better access to healthcare and health promotion programs but are more likely to adopt sedentary lifestyles and have higher rates of smoking and unhealthy diets. Understanding these differences is crucial for developing tailored interventions to reduce the burden of cardiovascular diseases in both settings.
This study will focus on comparing the prevalence of cardiovascular diseases between rural and urban populations in Taraba State. The limitations include potential difficulties in gathering comprehensive data from rural areas due to limited infrastructure and possible biases in self-reporting health conditions.
